Ginger Rose Shiraz Hunter Valley
2022 Shiraz
Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, New South Wales
An elegant single vineyard shiraz from old growth vines.
Description
A single vineyard wine that over delivers with poise, balance, elegance and power. Named for our winemaker's daughter & from a vineyard that delivers fruit of femininity and precision we discover our 2022 Ginger Rose. Looking vibrant and fresh, the bright red ruby hue is the red carpet to an enchanting nose of delicious red fruits, integrated savoury oak and lifted eucalypt peaks. The mocha coffee oak aromatics that loiter in the nose balance out this exemplary Hunter shiraz. The palate is soft but powerful. “An iron fist in a velvet glove” to quote Napoleon. Generous raspberry fruits with a fine line of mouthwatering acidity give drive and line. Medium bodied yet, with genuine presence to the palate, reminders of Bounty chocolate and soft tannins round out a long, lingering finish. Definitely one for the cellar and will reward patience. 10+ years. A vegetarian for many years, Ginger Rose is a ravioli aficionado. With her wine we suggest wild mushroom ravioli with truffle butter and toasted hazelnuts.

A vineyard owned and shared with Bimbadgen. Located on the western end of Palmers Lane and producing around 8-10T of which we see 50%. In 2022 we received 5.04T and the vineyard was cropping at 2T/acre which is at a expected level for quality vineyards here. The fruit was machine picked on the 18/2/22 which is late but it was a wet year so ripening was delayed. The vineyard was clean with no serious signs of disease. Baume was 13.5o. Fruit was crushed to an open fermenter for 10 days and pumped over twice per day with filtered air before being pressed out on the 28/2. Fruit was setlled three times (racked) before being pumped to barrel; french oak puncheons (500L) with 25% new on the 30/3. Wine was rack and returned twice (approx. every 6 months) before being removed from barrel in Nov 23 after 20 months. The wine was clarified and coarsely filtered before bottling in Jan 24.
- Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential
Definitely one for the cellar and will reward patience. 10+ years.
