Red Vines Blend Hunter Valley

Red Vines Blend Hunter Valley
Description
As admirers of the simplicity of regional wine drinking in Europe where varieties play second fiddle to quality and drinkability, this is our tribute to these style of wines. A delicious blend of Shiraz, Tempranillo and Touriga Nacionale that has all the hallmarks of a great food style. The nose is complex and beguiling. Bright red and dark fruits are abundant while highlights of all spice, mace, creamy chocolate and dark rum & raisin can all be experienced. The palate profile is both soft yet with a firm structure beneath. The generous fruits are wrapped around the fine, firm tannins with the acidity stitching everything together. The ripe red & mulberry fruits fruits are well balanced by the engaging mouthfeel the tannin and acidity provides, carrying through to a crisp farewell on the palate. Enjoy realtively young. Drink within 5 years. Protein will match well with these European flavours. Carpaccio with capers, parmesan and rocket.

Three separate parcels of fruit have been used in the blend and is legally 100% Hunter. 44% Shiraz (Contour Vineyard), 33% Tempranillo & 23 % Touriga (Both Oakey Creek Vineyard - our recent acquisition) All fruit was machine picked in early Feb 2023 and kept as separate parcels prior to bottling in 2024. Fruit was cold soaked for three days prior to allowing to warm up and innoculated with our yeast. Ferment temps were kept no higher that 220C or lower than 180C. Ferments were co-inoculated for malo and remained on skins for 11 days prior to pressing out to tank. Wines were racked twice and on the third time sent to oak. New oak was kept at around 25%. Each month wines were topped due to evaporation with racking occuring just once prior to bottling in December 2023. Initially, the 2023 Touriga and Temp were blended to give 1500L. Then the wine was benched and various blends were trialled before a final blend was confirmed. Final blend - HV Shiraz: 44%, Temp - HV 23: 12.2%, HV 24: 10.8%, HT 10%, HV Touriga - 23%. Hunter - 90%, Hilltops 10%.
