White Vines 2023

From $32.00 per 750ml

    Description

A deliciously aromatic wine that brings joy to the palate. Delicate aromatics of rose petal and boiled lolly confectionary float above the the delicious fruit characters of kiwi and rockmelon fruits. The palate is creamy, round with a soft, juicy mouthfeel. Being sugar dry, fruit sweetness is predominate lending to that juicy feel while turkish delight and soft mint leaf flavours add pleasing highlights. There is just the lightest touch of phenolic grip on the finish that leaves us something to eat to. You need some structure to go up against the flavours of a dish. Enjoy this wine in it's youth over the next 2-3 years. It's perfect for casual drinks with your mates or to bring something a little different to your next dinner party/BBQ/park picnic. Pairs well with a cauliflower, pomegranate & pistacchio salad.

In a season of low yields we were left scratching our heads as to what we could do with some of our wines from some of the smaller parcels. Having small parcels of wine sitting in half full tanks is risky business. As winemakers we want full vessels. Oxygen at wine stage is our enemy. It oxidises and allows bacteria to grow on the surface of the wines where large areas are exposed. Commercially making such small amopunts of single varietal wines was not viable so blending two varieties to create our White Vines was the safe way forward. Gewurztraminer (1.6T yielding 1050L), Savagnin (1.4T yielding 950L) were combined on the bench to trial the result. Happy with that, we did it in tank. This still left approx. 400L of space in the tank which we wanted filled. Assistant winemaker Jeremy, walked up to winemaker Nick with a sample in a glass and said "what do you think?". It looked good. "What did you do?". "I did a bench trial to see what it would be like if we topped it with our Rosé." The result was pleasing, so we did it. The wine looked tasty and the tank was full. Why Rosé? Call it White Merlot if you will. The final blend is 43% Gewurztraminer, 36% Savagnin and 21% Merlot. The rosé was fairly pale to begin with and was further diluted when blended in however, a slight pinking in the glass can be detected in the right light.
